The Protection of Personal Information Act, 4 of 2013 (POPIA) gives you control over your personal information. This page explains your rights and how to use them with Tootels.
How we handle your information
We follow the conditions for lawful processing in POPIA. We collect only the information we need and tell you why we need it, we use it only for those purposes, we keep it accurate and secure, and we keep it no longer than necessary. More detail is in our Privacy Policy.
Your rights
- Access: ask us to confirm whether we hold personal information about you, and to give you a copy.
- Correction: ask us to correct information that is wrong, out of date or incomplete.
- Deletion: ask us to delete information we no longer need or are not allowed to keep. We may need to keep some records, such as tax records, for the period the law requires.
- Objection: object to us processing your information, including for direct marketing.
- Withdraw consent: where we process your information with your consent, such as for marketing messages, you can withdraw it at any time. This does not affect what we did before you withdrew it.
- Complain: you can complain to us, and to the Information Regulator.
How to use your rights
Email our Information Officer, Feizal Asman, at feizal@tootels.co.za, or call 082 496 9346, and tell us what you would like us to do. We may need to confirm your identity first, to protect your information. We aim to respond within 30 days.
Marketing
We send marketing messages only to customers who have agreed to receive them. Every message has a way to opt out, and you can also opt out by contacting us.
If something goes wrong
If your personal information is ever accessed by someone who should not have it, we will tell you and the Information Regulator as soon as reasonably possible, as POPIA requires.
Complaints to the Information Regulator
If you are not satisfied with how we have handled your information, you may complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa at https://inforegulator.org.za, or by email to complaints.IR@inforegulator.org.za.
